Congrats to our Juniors!

Congrats to all of our new Shake N’ Bake members! We had a super sweaty time and loved seeing all of you share your passion for dance with us! Special thanks to Miss Michelle for the great workshop.

The Dance Program would like to wish Miss Maggie Reid a huge congratulations on her acceptance into SFU’s Professional Development Program! We were so lucky to have her as a volunteer teacher last year in our program and we wish her the best of luck as she moves forward into the next chapter of her life!

Congrats again Miss Reid, you are going to rock it!

Welcome Back!

It’s that time again! Time to dust off your dancing shoes… nope never mind, we don’t wear shoes here!

In all honesty, we are so happy to be back and very thrilled to announce that Miss Douglas is now a permanent member of our dance department at Burnaby Mountain! We hope you all had an incredible summer and got the time you needed to rest, re-energize and renew yourselves for what we know is going to be the best year of dance we’ve ever had at Burnaby Mountain. Our studio will be jam-packed with new students, new courses, new ideas and new ways to re-invent yourselves and emerge as young artists.

See you all on Tuesday!

Love Ms Worobets and Miss Douglas

10 More Days!!!

Our year end dance showcase is quickly approaching and there is lots of information to communicate to you.

First, a reminder that this year’s dance showcase will take place on Monday May 16th at the Michael J. Fox Theatre (7373 Macpherson Ave, Burnaby, BC V5J 2B7). Tickets will go on sale Monday April 18th and will be $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for students (children under the age of 4 are free provided that they are on your lap). Tickets can be purchased with either cash or cheque (made payable to Burnaby Mountain Secondary School) and can be purchased all the way up to the day before the show (Thursday May 12th) through Miss Douglas, or at lunch in the commons. Tickets will be available at the door, but we highly recommend purchasing your tickets ahead of time as we will have a limited amount of tickets left by that day. Doors will open at approximately 6:20pm (provided that the theatre and technical crews are ready to go) and seating will be general.

On the day of the show, students will need to be at the theatre by 3:30pm with full hair and make-up completed. Rehearsal will begin promptly at 3:45pm and by that time all students need to be in the theatre with their costumes on. Students will need to find their own way to the theatre and can do so either via transit (all students taking transit will travel together in a large group) or via personal ride to the theatre by a family member or friend. Either way, all students will need to leave school early to ensure that they arrive to the theatre on time. Please fill out the field trip form attached to this letter and send it back to Miss Douglas by Friday April 22nd.

Every year, we have provided dinner for the students, prior to the show, in the form of pizza or sandwiches and every year we run into small hiccups around financial loss, or dishonest portions. This year, we would like to try something different, a potluck! We are asking that each student, who wishes to participate in the potluck, bring something to share. Each class has been assigned a food group to contribute and they are as follows: block 2 – desserts, block 3 – fruits & veggies, block 4 – dinner foods/hot foods, block 6 – appetizers & salads, block 7 – dinner foods/hot foods, block 8 – munchies/junk food. If you send your dancer with kitchen items from home, we ask that you make sure you put a piece of tape on your items with your dancer’s name on it. Also, we ask that your dancer makes sure to grab their kitchen items from the multipurpose room after the show has finished. Any items left behind will not be picked up by Burnaby Mountain and will become property of Burnaby South. If your dancer would not like to participate in the potluck they are more than welcome to bring their own dinner.

This year, we are fortunate to have GTFX Professional Video Services recording our year-end show for us. DVD’s will be available for purchase and order forms will be distributed to students the week before the show (May 9-12). If you would like to purchase a DVD please fill out the form and send it in to Miss Douglas with the $15.00 fee.

Last, but not least, we are looking for a few parent volunteers to help transport costumes and props over to the Theatre from the school (we will have approximately ten costume bins and a few small props). If you are available to assist us with this, please fill out the volunteer form and return it to Miss Douglas by Friday April 22nd.

If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact Miss Douglas.

We look forward to showing you all that we have accomplished this year!
